How do I set up my Plegium self-defense spray with my phone?

Setting up your Plegium Smart Defense Spray or your Plegium Smart Mini Defense Spray with your phone is a quick and easy process. Here's how to do it:

  1. Download the Plegium app from the App Store or Google Play. Create an account and follow the setup instructions in the app. Make sure to grant the app permission to use Bluetooth and location services.

      

  2. Connect your spray to the app by tapping "Add device" on the home screen, then entering the four-digit code found under the flip top safety lid. You can also add your device by going to Settings > Nearby Plegium Devices and finding your device in the list.

  3. Add emergency contacts by clicking "Add contact" in the app and selecting up to 5 contacts from your phone's contact list. Your spray is now connected to your phone and ready to use.

To test all functions except the spray, use a sharp object to slide down the test switch on the side of the product for 10 seconds, then slide it back up. This will activate all features and send out alarms to your emergency contacts (so remember to let them know you are testing it).

Keep in mind that the Plegium app must be open for the location text messages and phone calls to function, it's enough that the app is in the background and the phone can be locked, but if you actively close ("kill") the app it will not be able to receive the signal from your spray that it has been fired.

How do I set up my Plegium Smart Emergency Button with my phone?

Setting up your Plegium Smart Emergency Button with your phone is a quick and easy process. Here's how to do it:

Keep in mind that for the emergency alerts to function, the Plegium app must be open or running in the background, otherwise it will not be able to receive the signal from the button when it's activated.

Is the Plegium app compatible with both Android and iOS devices?

Yes, the Plegium app is compatible with both Android and iOS devices. You can download the app for free on the App Store or Google Play.

How can I test my Plegium self-defense spray?

You can test the siren, the LED light, and the emergency alerts of your Plegium self-defense spray without triggering the actual spray (which you want to save in case you'd have to use it in an emergency situation).

To test the device, slide down the test switch on the side of the product for 10 seconds, then slide it back up. If you have a Smart or Smart Mini spray, remember to inform your emergency contacts that you are testing your product, so they don't mistake the test alerts for real emergency alerts.

How many emergency contacts can I have?

With the free Plegium app, you can add up to 2 emergency contacts of your choice.

If you need to add more contacts, you can upgrade to any of our paid subscriptions (Premium or Plus) which will allow you to add up to 7 contacts and also gives you access to additional safety features such as professional monitoring and live GPS tracking.

Are my emergency contacts required to download the Plegium app?

No, your emergency contacts do not need to download the app to receive emergency alerts.

You simply need to add their cell phone numbers as emergency contacts within the app. When you trigger your device, your emergency contacts will receive phone calls and text messages from a Swedish phone number.

We recommend that you ask your emergency contacts to add the Plegium phone number to their contact list for easy identification. Phone calls will come from +46 8 446 820 20.

What will the emergency alerts look like when I trigger my Plegium device?

When you activate your Plegium device (Plegium Smart Defense Spray, Plegium Smart Mini Defense Spray, or Plegium Smart Emergency Button), your emergency contacts will receive an automatic phone call featuring a message stating your name and the activation of your safety device.

Simultaneously, they will receive a text message containing a Google Maps link, displaying your location at the time of activation. This ensures quick and easy identification of your whereabouts in case of an emergency.

For Plegium Plus or Premium subscribers, emergency contacts will receive a similar phone call. However, the text message will differ: instead of a Google Maps link, they will receive a link to a tracking page, allowing them to monitor your live location for up to 3 hours or until you deactivate it.

As a Premium subscriber, these emergency alerts will also be forwarded to a call center, which will promptly inform first responders about your situation.

Which phone number will my emergency contacts receive alerts from when I activate my Plegium device?

Emergency phone calls will come from +46 8 446 820 20, and text messages will show "Plegium" as the sender.

To ensure easy identification, we recommend asking your emergency contacts to add the Plegium number to their phone book.

How do I use my Plegium self-defense spray effectively?

To effectively deploy your Plegium self-defense spray, follow these steps:

  1. Use your thumb to slide up the flip top safety lid to reveal the trigger.
  2. Press hard in the center of the trigger. This will activate all features simultaneously. If you have a Smart spray, remember that your spray must be connected to your phone for the emergency alerts to be activated.
  3. Direct the spray towards the attacker's eyes, then towards their nose and mouth.

Note (for Plegium Smart and Combo): Even after releasing the trigger, the siren and the light will continue to sound and flash until you turn it off by using a sharp object to slide up the test switch located on the side of the product. This is a safety feature to prevent an attacker from turning it off.

How do I trigger my Plegium Smart Emergency Button?

To trigger your Plegium Smart Emergency Button, simply press and hold both buttons on the side for 2 seconds. This will activate the alarm and send emergency alerts to your pre-set emergency contacts via phone call and text message, including your current location.

The device must be connected to your phone via Bluetooth for the alarm to be activated.

What is the spray duration and burst count for my Plegium self-defense spray?

All Plegium sprays have a duration of 10-15 seconds of continuous spraying or up to 20-30 quick bursts per canister.

Is the Plegium app required to be open in order for emergency alerts to function?

Yes and no – the Plegium app must be open for the location text messages and phone calls to function, but it can run in the background and the phone can be locked. However, if the app is actively closed or "killed," it will not be able to receive the signal from the spray or the alarm button that it has been activated.

The Plegium device will automatically reconnect once the app is opened and it is within Bluetooth range of the phone. You can check the connection status in the app at any time.

Is a constant connection to my phone required for the emergency alerts to function?

Yes, for the emergency alerts to activate, your Plegium device must maintain a Bluetooth connection with your phone within a range of 2-3 meters, and the Plegium app must be open. If you close the app completely, the device will disconnect and the app will not be able to recognize when you trigger it, meaning emergency alerts will not be sent out.

However, note that disconnecting a spray from your phone will not affect the other features of the spray such as the menthol spray, the LED light, and the siren. The spray will automatically reconnect once you open the app and it is within Bluetooth range of your phone. You can check the connection status in the app at any time.

Can I refill my Plegium self-defense spray?

No, the canisters inside our sprays are built-in and are glued shut to ensure the safety of our customers.

However, if you use your Plegium spray in an assault situation and provide us with a copy of the police report, we will send you a new unit for free. This ensures a safer process for everyone.

Can I reuse my Plegium self-defense spray after using it?

Each spray contains 13 ml of menthol spray liquid, which allows for up to 20-30 quick bursts or around 10-15 seconds of continuous spraying. However, for safety reasons, we recommend replacing your spray after use to ensure that you have a full spray available in case of an emergency.

Note that each Plegium defense spray comes with a unique guarantee: if you use your Plegium spray in an assault situation and provide us with a copy of the police report, we will send you a new device for free.

Can I bring my Plegium self-defense spray when traveling abroad?

Traveling with self-defense sprays can be complex as laws vary by country. We recommend checking the regulations of your destination as some countries permit pepper spray, others menthol-based spray, and some only allow marking dye sprays.

Please note that our sprays are classified as aerosols and are not allowed in the cabin of an airplane. It's essential to familiarize yourself with local regulations before carrying defense sprays or any self-defense product while traveling.

How far does my Plegium self-defense spray reach?

All Plegium self-defense sprays have a range of at least 3 meters (10 feet).

Is pepper spray legal in Sweden?

All our products are legal and license-free for private individuals in Sweden. While pepper spray, containing chili pepper extract, is prohibited for private citizens, our self-defense sprays use menthol as the active ingredient, which is entirely legal.

Highly concentrated menthol in our sprays provides a powerful, temporarily blinding effect on attackers, allowing you to escape to safety. Tested against pepper spray, our menthol formula has proven to be equally effective, providing a legal and potent self-defense option for individuals in Sweden.

How should I store my self-defense spray?
Store your self-defense spray in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat. Keep it out of reach of children and pets, and remember to check the expiration date regularly.
What should I do if I accidentally spray myself or someone else?
If you or someone else is accidentally sprayed with menthol spray, it is important to move to an area with fresh air and rinse the affected area with cool water for at least 15 minutes. Seek medical attention if necessary.
What is the spray pattern of my Plegium self-defense spray?

The Plegium self-defense sprays features a "stream" spray pattern, which has a good balance between range (reaching up to 15 feet) and accuracy (compared to a cone spray pattern), with low risk of blow-back compared to a gel spray pattern.

 

Is a subscription required for my Plegium device?

No, a subscription is not required to use your Plegium device. You can use the free Plegium app to add up to 2 emergency contacts who will receive free location text messages and phone calls if you ever trigger your self defense spray or alarm button.

However, we do offer two optional paid subscription plans. The first is Plegium Premium, which includes additional safety features such as professional monitoring, live GPS tracking, ability to add up to 7 emergency contacts, an in-app panic button, and more. The cost for Plegium Premium is 99 SEK per month, with a free one-month trial.

The second option is Plegium Plus, which offers the same features as Plegium Premium, except for professional monitoring. Plegium Plus costs 49 SEK per month.

What features does the free Plegium app offer?
The free Plegium app includes the following features: automatic location texts and phone calls to emergency contacts, the ability to add up to 2 emergency contacts of your choice, and automatic Bluetooth pairing with your Plegium personal safety device(s).
What additional features does Plegium Plus offer?

The Plegium Plus subscription includes all the features of the free app, along with:

  • Real-time GPS tracking, enabling your emergency contacts to monitor your location until you are safe.
  • An in-app panic button for directly triggering alarms within the app without using the device.
  • A live updated alarm log, providing your emergency contacts with real-time updates of your alarms.

The Plegium Premium subscription includes all the features of the free app, as well as the following:

How does the professional monitoring service work on Plegium Premium?

Plegium Premium includes a 24/7 professional monitoring service that is activated when you trigger your device. When you activate your device, the Plegium app immediately connects to a call center, which then notifies first responders about your situation and location.

This service is included in your Plegium Premium subscription and there is no additional cost for this feature. First responders will then take immediate action to ensure your safety.

What is the difference between Premium and Plus?
The main difference between Plegium Premium and Plegium Plus lies in the level of service. While both subscription plans offer features like live GPS tracking, an in-app panic button, and real-time audio feed, Plegium Premium includes the added benefit of 24/7 professional monitoring. In contrast, Plegium Plus provides the same features as Premium, excluding the professional monitoring service. Choose the plan that best suits your safety needs and preferences.
How much does a Plegium Premium subscription cost?
Plegium Premium costs 99 SEK per month, with the option of a free trial month, and you can cancel it at any time. You can also choose a yearly subscription for 799 SEK per year.
How much does a Plegium Plus subscription cost?
Plegium Plus costs 49 SEK per month, with the option of a free trial month, and you can cancel it at any time. You can also choose a yearly subscription for 399 SEK per month.
How do I sign up for Plus or Premium?

You can sign up for Plegium Premium or Plegium Plus directly through the Plegium app. Simply open the app, navigate to the home screen, and click on the "Sign up" button. From there, you can select the monthly or annual subscription plan and enter your payment information.

Keep in mind that you can also try Premium or Plus for free for one month, and you can cancel your subscription at any time. Subscriptions will automatically renew unless canceled within 24-hours before the end of the current period.

How do I cancel my Plus or Premium subscription?

You can cancel your Plegium Premium or Plus subscription at any time through the Plegium app. Simply go to the Settings menu > Profile & Account and click on the "Manage subscription" button.

If you prefer, you can also cancel your subscription through your phone's settings. For iOS users, go to Settings > [Your Name] > iTunes & App Store > Tap on your Apple ID > View Apple ID > Subscriptions > Plegium Premium > Cancel Subscription. For Android users, go to the Google Play Store > Tap on the menu icon > Subscriptions > Plegium Premium > Cancel Subscription.
